What causes the SSL certificate error when activating licences?

When activating a licence in ERP-Scale, the following error is displayed: “Error contacting web service: The underlying connection was closed. Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel”. Event messages may be logged in the Application log relating to crypt32. This is caused by a missing root certificate on the computer where the Pocket Programs activation relay is installed.
